4th of July Game and Food Booths
Date: July 4, 2014
Time: 12:00 - 10:00 P.M.
# of Members: ~20
The Fourth of July festival is a local annual event held in Cerritos coordinated by the Let Freedom Ring Committee, featuring food, carnival games and rides, entertainment, family activities and fireworks. This year, WHS Robotics organized a food and game booth. There was a large number of people at this event to enjoy the festivities and activities followed by a fireworks show at 8:00 P.M.
WHS Robotics’ food booth sold hot dogs, chips, coffee, hot chocolate, sodas, and water. The game booth had a ring toss game with a level up system for the prizes. Members volunteered at both booths with 30-minute shifts. Parents were interested in WHS Robotics’ activities and asked how they could get their children involved with robotics as well. We had FIRST brochures available at both the food and game booths for more information.
Those helping at the food booth had to make runs for more packs of soda since they had sold out half way through. When the event was winding down and both food and game booth areas had to clean up, the game booth was not able to give away a lot of its prizes while the food booth had sold an exceptional number of hot dogs and sodas. Not many people bought hot chocolate or coffee, as the evening was warm. In retrospect, the level up system for prizes at the game booth could have been simplified.
