Whitney High School Open House Demonstration
Date: April 16, 2014
Time: 5:00 - 9:00 P.M.
# of Members: ~15
At our annual Whitney High School Open House, the WHS Robotics Club, consisting of the FLL, FTC, and VEX teams, held a robotics demonstration in the Multi-purpose room (MPR) on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. The demonstration was organized by Benjamin Domae and Tony Ngo and its purpose was to display our progress and accomplishments from the past robotics season. This year, we changed our location for our demonstration from Room 31 to the MPR due to a higher participant number. We had around fifteen volunteers from the club, each with a different shift, to work at the various stations of the demonstration. Each station was based on each team and its respective competition.
Many interested parents and students visited our robotics demonstration, and by the end of the day, we had a total of 300 to 400 attendees at the event. Our primary purpose of this event was to bring in interested students to join our Robotics Club next school year, and to spread awareness for community outreach to the local community. The parents had a variety of questions such as “How does my son/daughter create a team?” and “Which kind of competition best suits for my son/daughter currently at his/her age?” All of our volunteers had an answer to those questions due to their experience in the club. Overall, the demonstration ran smoothly and there were no major setbacks. However, some volunteers had to leave to participate in other events such as the Jazz Band concert or the cultural “Let It Go” concert, which left us slightly short on manpower. As a whole, it was still a successful event for the WHS Robotics Club.
